Foodsaver brand and other channel type sealers are quite convenient, widely available and commonly owned household appliances. However, Foodsaver brand or other vacuum sealers that use embossed channel type bags are not compatible with Drybags due to the following reasons:
Bag design difference:
Sealer design principle differences:
The channel type sealers are designed to draw the air out of the bag while it is being held closed by the sealing jaws. Upon air evacuation they trigger the sealing function with the bag remaining closed by the sealing jaws the entire cycle time.
The recommended Retractable Snorkel Sealer is designed to insert the snorkel into the bag thereby opening it and evacuating the air out of the Drybag. After the air is evacuated the snorkel retracts and the sealer bar is pressed allowing the bag opening to be compressed by the sealer jaws and trigger the heat sealing function.
The basic advantage of the Retractable Snorkel Sealer over the channel type sealers is that it can utilize any heat sealable plastic bag (even ordinary sandwich bags). All channel type sealers require the use of specially designed bags.
While many of our customers have experimented with trying to seal Drybags using channel type sealers and some have had success, through various modifications, we can not recommend the use of these sealers for Drybags.
We have found the Retractable Snorkel Sealer to be the most affordable and convenient device to seal Drybags. The sealer can also be used with any heat sealable bag available in a household for vacuum sealing various food items and does not require specially designed bags to be purchased.
Drybags can be vacuum sealed with any type of snorkel type sealer or generally more expensive chamber type vacuum sealers used in most commercial establishments.
